BOOKSHELF: The Power of Six

Remember "I Am Number Four" movie starring Alex Pettyfer who played the role of alien by the name of John Smith with Dianna Agron (Glee star, Quinn)? As you might all know, it was from the book bearing the same title and last August 23, the second book was released, The Power of Six.

The Power of Six is narrated by Four, John Smith, and Seven, Marina. Four who is with Sam Goode and Six in America while Seven in a convent in Spain. The story evolves in the continuous run of John, Sam and Six from Paradise to escape FBI, media and the Mogadorians while Seven struggles to find more about her legacy and information of the infamous, John Smith, a probable Garde like her.

As the story progresses, we will be introduced to answers from the last book or film like Sam's dad, what will to Sarah and where the others are.

If you have seen the movie, which I suggest you should, you will want to see this second book converted to film as well. Why? -- All because I have seen what Six could do in the movie I Am Number Four and if she kicked ass on that, you will thoroughly enjoy her display of powers on this second installment more. Although The Power of Six is not just about Six but the six Gardes remaining, it showcases how good Six is and that alone would make me wish for the second movie.

SPOILERS sneak peak:
1. Sam Goode's Dad probable location
2. Sam x Six x Four triangle
3. Six x Four x Sarah triangle
4. Appearance of Nine, Seven, Ten and chimeras
5. A new powerful Mogadorian

Buy the book and enjoy. :)

EVENT: Wedding Expo

Yesterday, we attended the Wedding expo at SMX. Yes, we are planning but not as serious as others would. Then why attend an expo?
ü  It’s free
ü  No commitment whatsoever
ü  And one of the surprises, you get to win something J (btw, I won a pair of earrings from wedding library and a bottle of red wine from themesandmotif’s raffle draw sponsored by Patio de Tata Roque Catering Service)
Why else wouldn’t you want to go?
Aside from soon-to-weds, fresh wedding planners would have the expo educating and extremely helpful what with all the suppliers and their fliers all over the place.

So, how did we know of this event?
Originally, we were scheduled to attend a wedding expo at NBC Tent last August but we forgot about it. So, we took the next one that we saw at MOA.

You don’t really look or read posters unless it’s very interesting (graphics or copy) or you find it relevant. – and this one was!

How did you register?
We went to http://www.themesandmotifs.com/ver1/ and registered and voila! We got ourselves a free pass. Wasn’t that delightful?

It was a 2-day event, Saturday and Sunday. We attended the Sunday event, got there by 11:00am, filled up the registration form and received our IDs and a map. We were instructed to go to redemption booth/area to claim our loot bag.

Once you step inside, except to be mobbed by fliers of suppliers thus heading first to redemption for the loot bag.

Loot bag has a Manila Bulletin newspaper inside. (Another freebie). Was the loot bag helpful? Definitely. We placed all our fliers inside so we don’t lose them.
We spent almost two hours looking and collecting whatever it is we thought were important:
  1.          Catering – one of the biggest allotment to our budget
  2.          Photo & Video – we are not very particular but it was nice to see their works and find the cheapest of them all

Note-worthy:
One of the nicest flier/brochure we received was from Blissful Occasion Event Organizer which has a checklist of what you’ll need then their contact number at the back. It was function and ads in one and until now it serves as our guideline for the whole planning.

Another is i-Flick, a photo booth which gave a free try. Although all photo booth gives a free try, their booth assured us that there are no repetition of background for their client. In short, they don’t recycle. Add the fact that it was charming that the old man, probably the owner, who was all smiles was hands-on on the business. We were sold.

We did not give any down payments for any of the suppliers. We knew that we need to think things through before making that decision. You may want to or not. In the end, the biggest impact of the expo to us was to start taking it seriously even if the plan is next year or next, next year. Taking this first step convinced us that we have to start now or we might never start at all.
Before we headed for the exit, we won a bottle of red wine (see details above) from their hourly raffle.

I would have taken a picture of the event but cameras aren't allowed. :(

PROVERB | IDIOM: Brevity is the soul of the wit

Here being my first proverb (and first ever) post, let me give you the rationale behind posting proverbs. You like to read, yes? If you do, then you'll know that one out of the 300+ pages of a book is the chance that you will encounter proverbs or idioms and not everything you will understand. Realizing this, I became interested with them and it made a hobby out of me to always look for its meaning.

"Brevity is the soul of the wit"

According to wikianswers (http://wiki.answers.com/Q/What_does_'brevity_is_the_soul_of_wit'_mean), the proverb means that articulate and intelligent communication (speech and writing) should use few and wisely chosen words. It is best associated with the play 'Hamlet,' by William Shakespeare.

Therefore, Brevity is the soul of the wit means it will take few words that are chosen wisely to explain things and I agree. You may give lengthy speeches but if you cannot even drive a point then your speech did not serve its purpose well. Although sometimes it may require a lot of talking, it is now in your discretion how and what words to choose.

Be "Laconic"1 and save yourself more room for errors. :)
